Thundershirt!

For those of you who know Dax, he's a bit, shall we say....excitable! As we will be moving house in a few weeks, we thought we'd try a 'thundershirt' to help with the transition. A thundershirt is "The best solution for Dog Anxiety". It's recommended uses are for: fear of thunder(check), separation anxiety(check), barking problems (check), noise anxiety (check), car or travel anxiety (check), crate anxiety (double check), reactivity (check), general fearfullness (check - especially to skateboards and cyclists NOT wearing helmets), excitability (check), leash pulling (check). Hmmm! Dax checks all behaviours!

He was pretty pissed when it first went on!
And when he couldn't 'shake' it off, he took off upstairs and I went to check that he wasn't trying to chew it off and found him sulking on the bed!
He followed me back downstairs, and decided to forgive me and have a cuddle. Next thing I knew, he'd crashed! I guess it's having a 'calming' affect! Between that and Doggy Yoga, we may have the calmest dog on the street!

Downward Dawg!

Here is Dax demonstrating how to get into the Downward Dawg position - for his new Doggy Yoga book! Ha ha!Yoga!

Happy Anniversary!

Dax's First Day!

This is a photo of Dax and Abby when we brought him home! He was so little! Within the hour, Abby gave me the look "can we take him back now?" Hee hee!

Poser! Dax thinks he's a model!

Michelle, Dax's dog walker (and one of his favourite humans), captured these shots of Dax posing! I think he's hoping GQ are going to call! haha!

While you were out!

Ha ha! While Dax was out the back chasing away the squirrels from our back patio, Abby snuck onto one of the dog beds! Yay!

Some of Dax's favourite things!

The orange rubber ball

Dax's new obsession is this frisbee! He makes sure no other dog comes close when he's chasing after it!
Thanks to Michelle, our awesome dog walker, for the pic's!

Spoiled for choice!

Dax likes to keep his options open, so he's making sure that he has claimed both dog beds! Abby is asleep on the cool slate floor in the kitchen!

Abby's New Bed!

Abby likes to lay on the cold floor in the warmer months, but in the winter, she enjoys the comfort of dog bed or a rug. Dax on the other hand goes for cushy comfort 365 days of the year! Today we brought home a new bed for Abby with memory foam as she's an older girl and we wanted her to be comfy. And look who claimed it!!!!!

Caught in the Act!

And it wasn't Dax this time! Dax's furry sister, Abby, decided to help herself to dog treats, rawhide sticks and bones to chew on while no on was around!

The interesting thing is that the 'bucket' that has held these things (as well as the dog toothbrushes, small dog toys and other dog things), has been sitting under the table since the weekend! Guess she's feeling better! Ha!

Dax and Dad have a moment!

I happened to witness this lovely little exchange with Dax and his Dad. I love how Dax is looking right into his Dad's eyes!

"Rub my belly please!"

This is Abby back to her usual smiling self!

Ghosts in the room?

Today I was scanning some documents and Dax decided he needed to check out the strange noises in the corner of the room! There were about 18 pages scanned, so he gave up after awhile and lay down on the blanket beside the printer!

Bone drama!

Firstly, Abby is feeling much better today! Yay! Abby loves to chew on rawhides - it's her favourist thing to do! When I came downstairs this afternoon, she looked up at me for help and I noticed this little rawhide bone in her mouth. I thought that was unusual because usually she doesn't stop chewing until it's gone.  Or she'll drop it onto the floor, all the while protecting it, in case a certain Boingle (Dax) comes along and tries to steal it from her! Then I realized! The bone was stuck on her tooth! I tried to get it "unstuck" for her without success!
Here is a photo where I was trying to see into her mouth to figure out what was going on!
Abby decided to wait for her Hero Dad to return from Home Depot! She knew that he would get it unstuck and he did! Yay!

And this is what Dax thought about it all!!!!!!

Poor Abby has a headache :(

I was later getting home from work this evening, and the dogs had just returned from being walked. It's very muggy and warm out today and Abby doesn't like the heat. I was shocked to see Abby refuse her dinner! What!?!!!! She flopped down onto the cool floor and didn't move, so I tried giving  her a treat - she turned her nose away!!!!! Uh oh!!!!! Abby never turns away a treat!

I put a cold compress on her head and she wagged her tail - just a little bit. A Mum knows!

I managed to get a Baby Aspirin into her and she's now in the cool dark basement. I hope her headache goes away soon! Poor little girl!

Dax is very concerned (sarcasm) about Abby as you can well imagine!

Here is a photo of Dax looking very um, concerned (ahem!)! He is passed out asleep next to me on the sofa, with a belly full of dinner!

Afternoon Nap

And this is what an afternoon nap looks like! Sun rays are optimal!

A Typical day at the Dog Park!

So this is what a trip to the dog park is like with Dax. First, he demands that you throw the ball for him to run after and bring back to you. If you don't respond in a timely manner, he barks at you and lets you know in no uncertain terms that you are not keeping up and meeting his expectations!

When he gets bored with that, he'll join in the 'chase'! It's not always known who is chasing who, but there is definitely chasing going on! Until someone decides they need a rest! And then the others begin digging. Dax likes to dig. He's often the one to start digging and the others have to come have a look. Depending on his mood, he'll ignore them and keep digging, will tell them all with a very loud bark that they should "back off!" Or, he'll go find something else to do and let one of the other dogs continue where he left off! And that is a day at the dog park, with Dax! No wonder he needs to nap all afternoon!
